Neil Sanders and Matt Sergiou return to the series for a three-way conversation marking the 50th anniversary of the fabled ‘Summer Of Love’, the zenith of the hippie/ counter-culture scene. The official record has it that this was an organic movement that that just grew on its own, but the new availability of information has shown it all to have had the fingerprints of the military-intelligence services such as the CIA, MI6 and the Tavistock Institute all over it.
We consider the legacy of the events which led to the 1967 climax and the effects they had on Western culture which are still being experienced today, the pre-cursor to it, the Beatnik scene of a generation earlier, and the parallels between what was happening in California and the avant-garde counter-culture scene of London in the 1960s. Along the way, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Charles Manson, LSD and the acid house scene of the 1980s all come up for discussion.
